My large female dog's vulva is small. Is it safe to breed her?

Pet's info: Dog | Neapolitan Mastiff | Male | unneutered | 7 years and 8 months old | 100 lbs

i have a friends Bitch here for mating, i know she is in heat as my male is extremely interested. I'm concerned as this Bitches Vulva is extremely small for a dog her size . what would cause this, she is a Neapolitan Mastiff as is my male

Hi there. Sounds like she may have a hypoplastic vulva. All female dogs can be at risk of having a hypoplastic vulva but medium to giant sized dog breeds have been shown to be at a higher risk. I suggest your friend have his bitch evaluated by a vet before attempting to mate her. Your male could cause serious damage to her. It may be more helpful if you could post again with a photo however, I'm not sure the answer would change much. It is best to have her evaluated before breeding. Hope this helps. Best wishes.
