My 6-week-old puppy is vomiting, lethargic, and crying. What's wrong?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 1 month and 19 days old | 2 lbs

My 6-week-old puppy puked his dinner and bubbles this morning. He's been lethargic, keeps crying, sleeps most of the time today. He also cries while changing sleeping positions. I force-fed him chicken porridge and water. I also fed a bit of raw egg. What could be the cause and what do I do in the meantime? Also, my parents didn't allow me to bring to the vet. Thank you so much.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I am sorry Grizzly is sick! Grizzly really needs to see a Vet, I am sorry that it isn't possible. The crying when changing positions is likely from pain/discomfort. Possible causes for lethargy and vomiting are: ate something that is stuck in his intestines or stomach that would require surgery to remove, an intussusception (also require surgery), viral infections like parvo virus, intestinal parasites, food intolerance or dietary indiscretion, toxin ingestion. The only thing you can do at home is to keep him warm and comfortable. Slowly dribble water and liquid puppy food in his mouth as long as he can swallow. Try to avoid human foods. Keep trying to convince your parents to allow you to take him to the Vet. I hope this helps and I wish you and Grizzly the best
