My dog ate a plastic pompom. Is his vomiting a sign of blockage?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pit Bull Terrier | Male | unneutered | 5 years and 3 months old | 62 lbs

My dog ate a Plastic pompom July 29, 2017 while I was out of town. My brother was caring for him while I was gone and came home to find my dog had thrown up several times with bits of the pompom in his vomit he also pooped some out. It is now September 12, 2017 and my dog is throwing up large amounts of what looks like pom pom. Is this a cause for concern? Could there be a blockage? He has eaten and used the bathroom fine.

Wow, that was definitely stuck there for a while and it must have just came unstuck. This is quite unusual and means that there was a partial blockage the whole time. Complete blockages and sometimes partial blockage can cause life-threatening complications, but Rocko does not appear to be having those signs. If he is eating, drinking and defecating OK, then there is no need to rush him to the vet at this time. If he does become blocked, he would stop eating, stop defecating, vomit and would generally be appearing depressed. If you notice the combination of those signs happening, then he should go to the vet right away. I hope that helps and Rocko gets better soon.
