My chameleon choked on crickets. Am I feeding the wrong size?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

So, I had a chameleon that was 4 weeks old and ended up choking on crickets I purchased from pets mart and sadly died. Then I got another chameleon and its been exactly 4 weeks and my chameleon choked just like the first one. Fortunately, we were able to get the crickets out of his throat and he is well and alive now. What are we doing wrong?

I'm sorry to hear about this! My suspicion is that the crickets are too big. The general rule about the size of the food is that it should be no bigger than 2/3 the size of the lizard's head; but with juveniles, it's best to not feed anything bigger than 1/2 the size of their head. I recommend checking out the Chameleon forum for more information and help in caring best for Pascal. The link is below: https://www.chameleonforums.com/ I hope that helps.
