My puppy's paw is red, swollen, looks like sap or a wound. What is it?

Hi! I'm super worried about my puppy nipper, he has this gross thing on his foot that looks like tree sap from afar but the closer I get the more it looks like a wound. He is in no pain but he won't stop licking it, it's red around it and feels a bit swollen. Please help! It won't let me upload any picturespictures. Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | unneutered | 6 months and 28 days old

HI, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Nipper! If he will let you, try soaking his foot in a warm Epsom salt bath. Then gently wash the foot to see if it sap. Then try to use an E-collar to prevent licking. After you get the foot cleaned up hopefully you can see what is going on. If he will not let you touch it at all it is best to have him seen by a Vet. Also if you realize it is a wound he should be seen. I hope this helps and please repost with pictures if you can! Good luck!
