Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Female | spayed | 10 lbs
My Chihuahua is6 or 7 years old and is very hyper and just started doing this thing where she excerpts air out of her diaphragm quickly and it's been going on all day. It's like when you sneeze, but she's not sneezing. Just making the body movement and heaving air out. It's not hiccups, or choking, but more like a continuous deep belly cough, but it comes out of her nose. It will stop for a few seconds when we pet her or move her, but then starts up again. Should we take her to the hospital?

Hi there! Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This can sometimes be seen with dogs when they an abdominal component to their breathing. This can happen from a number of conditions mostly affecting the respiratory system such as congestive heart failure, pneumonia, bronchitis, among other things. There is a chance that it is not something significant though it really requires a thorough physical examination to know more about what Lovebug is doing and what would be the next best diagnostic and treatments options are for her. Good luck! Have a nice evening!
