My kitten stopped eating and is hiding. Should I take him to the vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 5 months and 13 days old

My kitten usually eats all his food at once but he only ate half his food for all 3 meals yesterday. He hasn't touched his food this morning. He's still active and sleeping normally but I notice he's hiding in dark places. Just wanting to know if I need to take him to the vet soon or watch to see if he improves as consultation fees here are around $100 alone. Thank you in advance!

Hello, sorry to hear about Mitzi. It certainly sounds like he may be having early signs of becoming sick. In kittens we would be concerned with respiratory infections, GI infections with parasites, or viral infections. You could certainly watch him for a couple of days to see how he progresses, being that he may bounce back on his own. However, if you note any vomiting, diarrhea, coughing, or sneezing then you should have Mitzi evaluated. Hope this helps and best of luck.
