Why is my cat suddenly peeing and pooping on the floor and meowing?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 3 years and 5 months old | 9 lbs

Hello! My cat has been defecating and peeing on the floor for the past few days, which never happened before. She is 3 years old and has always been clean on that level, never doing something out of her litter box. I don't know if it's linked to her being stressed, as she has been loudly meowing for the past week, which is unusual for her.

Bonjour! Thank you for posting your question on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Defecating and urinating on the floor can be a sign of stress, yes. If there has been any changes in the household or your schedule recently, this could be due to stress. It can also be caused by certain medication conditions that will need to be ruled out and checked by your veterinarian. If you request a consult with me, we could talk further about Joconde's issue and explore what may be contributing to the development of the new behavior and next steps. Thanks for posting your question and I hope we can connect soon.
