My Goldendoodle drank pond water and threw up. Does she need a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Goldendoodle | Female | spayed | 7 months and 3 days old | 55 lbs

Hi, two days ago I took my 7 month goldendoodle to a friends house who has a little fountain/pond in their backyard. I caught her drinking out of the pond and stopped her. That night she threw up just a tiny bit. She acted fine all day. Last night she threw up again in the middle of the night. Again, it wasnt much. Today she is acting fine but I just want to check that I don't need to take her to a vet. I have been watching her stool and it is normal and she is eating normally.

Nola should be fine. While you don't want her to drink dirty water usually a small amount doesn't upset them. Often dogs that vomit in the night or early morning do so due to having an empty stomach. This is especially true if you feed early in the evening, I like to give a biscuit or treat before bed and feed early in the morning to prevent this. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to help you care for Nola.
