Why is my dog's leg still swollen over a week after a bee sting?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 14 years and 8 months old | 21 lbs

My dog recently was stung by a bee/wasp on his leg and it has been swollen for just over a week now, I gave it time because I thought it would go away but it's still swollen. He doesn't seem to have any pain from it but it is pretty swollen.

Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Swelling after a bee/wasp sting shouldn't last more than about 24 hours. If this is still swollen then I would be worried about infection/inflammation secondary to the sting, or a problem unrelated to the sting. I would recommend having Kodie seen by your vet and they will do a physical exam, and will check his lymph nodes and likely will want to take some x-rays of that limb. With his age we have to worry about a possible cancer causing the swelling. I would recommend a visit with the vet as soon as possible. Best of luck with Kodie.
