Is a 4-year, 4-litter dog guardian program healthy for my dog?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labradoodle | Female | unspayed | 26 days old | 6 lbs

We are looking at a guardian program of a female puupy whereby the breeder retains breeding rights for 4 years and max of 4 liters..after which time we take ownership and can choose to spade etc ..what are the downstream effects on dogs after this type of regime?

I think that is too many litters and would be hard on the dog to recover. A female shouldn't be bred until two years old and I recommend hip X-rays before breeding as many labradoodles develop hip dysplasia. Then she should only have a maximum of one litter a year. To get four litters before she's four years old she would need to be bred at the first or second heat and every heat as soon as the pups are gone. This would increase the risk of mammary cancer, uterine infections and you wouldn't have much time to enjoy a dog with her being pregnant or nursing the puppies all the time. Personally you'd be better off purchasing a dog of your own that you can raise and train yourself and enjoy the entire time.
