My dog has fleas, biting paws, inflamed and oozing. Is it infected?

Well, I am 15 and my family has two dogs both of which have a terrible case of fleas. One of the dogs keeps biting her paws because the fleas are crawling in there. Due to this biting, her paws have become extremely inflamed and begun to excrete a creamy puss substance. I'm worried it might be infected, but my parents are convinced that this is normal. The fleas have infested every inch of our home and we haven't been able to shake them for the past two years.

In order to rid the flea problem you will have to treat the animals and the environment at the same time. When the weather cools the problem can get worse. You can get flea tablets to treat the animals with that will last a month or 3 months based on what type you get. As far as the scratching and sores go, there should not be a discharge between the toes. You can try to clean the area with soap and water, and use dawn dish soap or baby shampoo as this can kill the fleas. You can apply cortisone cream to the affected area or medicated powder to help dry out the area to provide some relief.
