New guinea pig hair loss behind ear: Ringworm, mites, or vet visit?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Hi I just got this guinea pig and I'm worried he has ringworm, or something is wrong with him cause he has a massive area behind his ear hair lose, very shy and skiddish.....he's new so I don't want to bother him so much cause I want him to get used to me but I'm really worried what it might be ...also should I go the vet to get it checked out, or can I do something at home to fix it

I would recommend bringing him in for a skin scraping to identify if this is a mite or ringworm. If you personally develop circular lesions then it is more likely that it is ringworm, and not a mite. Selamectin is a great treatment for common mites and parasites.
