My dog has red eyes with green discharge. Can I use ciprofloxacin?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 8 months and 11 days old | 140 lbs

My dog has yellowish greenish discharge coming out of right eye. Eye is red. It was just the right eye yesterday and now it's both eyes. Should I put ciprofloxacin 0.3% ophthalmic solution drops in her eyes?

It's not recommended to put antibiotic eye drops before having it checked by a vet first, it's important to check the eyes and make sure there is no ulcer or other damage before starting any topical treatment.
