My dog isn't eating, pooping, bloated, and pulling hair. What's wrong?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | unneutered | 14 years and 2 months old | 95 lbs

I took my dog to the vet 3 days ago and had him checked out because he wasn't eating or pooping they gave him a b12 shot and some antibiotics . Overall they said he was in good health for his age. He is barely eating and still isn't pooping and now he is pulling hair out by his belly button and he looks a little bloated, what should I do?

I am very sorry to hear about Batista. You don't mention if he had any testing done but at his age with his symptoms we would recommend to start with an abdominal x-ray and potentially ultrasound based on what we see on x-ray. A blood work panel would also be recommended to check for changes in blood cells that may indicate infection, internal bleeding, or cancer as well as a chemistry panel to screen for things like liver and kidney problems as well as endocrine disease and other systemic illness. If he has had some of these tests already and you wish to discuss them in more detail you can try utilizing the Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach consulation service for a one-on-one discussion.
