Is my cat drinking more water due to pancreatitis or other issues?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 9 years and 2 months old | 16 lbs

My cat is 8 years old and a few months ago was diagnosed with pancreatitis. Luckily, it went away and since he has been fine for the most part. I am concerned because lately he has been drinking more water than usual. Other than that, he is his normal self. Can this be due to pancreatitis or something related to that?

Possibly, although my other concerns for increased drinking include kidney disease, hyperthyroidism and diabetes. Weight loss, vomiting or soft stool can also be signs of concern in these conditions. I would ask your vet about running a urine sample and/or some bloodwork to help determine if the increased drinking is a problem. I would also recommend having Brady on wet food (assuming he likes it!) if he is not already as that can help add moisture to his diet. I hope this helps!

This sounds like possibly an intestinal parasite issue but the increased water consumption and urination is concerning; those can be signs of diabetes, kidney disease, Cushing's disease, etc). I suggest you get him to your vet for an exam. I do not think it is an emergency so you can just make him a regular appointment.
