My dog's paw bump won't heal. How can I get her off the cone?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | unspayed | 2 years and 8 months old | 20 lbs

It's been a 2 weeks with cali wearing the cone so she doesn't chew on the bump on the top of her paw. The bump on her paw looks like its better than what it was 2 weeks ago but it's still pretty large! In the picture its hard to tell but it almost looks like a dog wart, do dogs even get warts? What is the best way to help her so I can get her off the cone as soon as possible? I put medicine (MicrocynAH wound and skin care) on her paw every night, is that really all I can do?

Since topical medication hasnt healed the area up Cali may need oral antibiotics to help clear up the ulceration that is on the surface of her wart. You may also want to consider talking to your vet about having the mass removed since it is causing her some distress and staying infected. In the meantime the best way to help it heal and keep her from licking it is the cone. I'm sorry, I know she probably hates wearing it, and I don't blame her. I hope this helps. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Best of luck!
