Why is my dog's poop still soft on a low protein diet for liver?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 12 years and 8 months old | 88 lbs

My dog has to be on a low protein diet because of his liver. Had been very sick 3 weeks ago. Poop is stil like soft served ice cream. He is active, mile or more walking and a little jogging on his own every day. appetite is very good. Eating oatmeal, pumpkin, sweet potatoes, carrots and organ meats. Out put seems fine. How concerned should I be about stools being so soff?

Oz could be having soft stool due to being on a diet very low in fiber and human food. Organ meats can actually be high in protein. IF Oz has liver disease I would recommend starting him on a prescription diet made specifically for liver disease. IT is lower in protein but will also have all the vitamins and minerals that Oz needs to be healthy. Once on a proper diet it is likely his stool will harden up. hope that helps and thanks for using pet coach
