7-month puppy has rice-like worms. What dewormer, flea, and vaccine?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 7 months old | 4 lbs

I have a 7 month old chorkie. She was given first shots at a vet office at 8-9 weeks of age , but didn't receive boosters. Does she need to restart the course or where do I go from here as far as what she needs? Also, at 4lbs can she take oral flea prevention pills? And what wormer should I use? She has "rice looking" sections in her poop and hair around the anal area as well as a few live small ones in her feces (flat - not roundworms)

HI, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Foxy lady will need 2 DHPP vacicnes 3 weeks a part in order to protect her. The 2nd one will be good for 1 year. The next vaccine the following year will be good for 3 years. She also needs a Rabies vaccine, which is required by law. She should be heart worm tested and started on heart worm pills. There are oral flea and tick medications. Nexgard is a monthly pill for flea and ticks and can be given to dogs who weigh 4 lbs or more. For Simparica she would need to be over 5.6 lbs. Bravecto is for dogs over 6 months of age and is ONE pill every 3 months and is ok for dogs over 4 lbs. Tapeworm infections are usually from fleas. The dewormer that is used is Droncit or drontal. I hope this helps!
