Senior Rottweiler with growing red lump under eye. Is it cancer?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Rottweiler | Female | spayed | 11 years and 1 month old | 100 lbs

11 year old Rottweiler has two lesions under eyebrow. At first I thought it was from rubbing her eye on sofa . But it seems like it is growing. She has had cancer of the toe, had it removed and breast cancer a couple of years ago. Very concerned. It does not bleed but it is very red and looks smooth. No pus. Please advise. Thanks.

I always recommend having a skin lump evaluated by a veterinarian right away in an older dog. While hair loss from trauma or a skin infection is possible, a tumor could look similar. Some autoimmune skin diseases also start this way. Your veterinarian might want to take a sample with a small needle if the area is raised or may recommend going ahead and removing the lesions while they are small to send out for a biopsy.
