No, I would not recommend giving either of these. I would deworm Gunner with a good broad-spectrum dewormer like Panacur to get rid of the parasites - this will clear up the diarrhea. In the meantime, you can feed him a bland diet of plain boiled chicken and rice for the next 2-3 days to help encourage his stools to be firmer.

Imodium would be just a symptomatic treatment, which would not be of great help in case of an infective gastroenteritis. In this case, considering the persistency of the diarrhoea despite the dietary change, I would recommend a check up at your local veterinarian as antibiotics and probiotics may be needed.

Poor guy. This looks like normal diarrhea for sure. Give the medication time to help out here. It usually take about 48-72 hrs for loose stool to improve after starting medication. This looks like it could very well be stress colitis, which can just happen in anxious pets or ater eating something they shouldn't have. In addition to the medications started, you can also give 1-2 tsp of canned pumpkin (not the pie filling) to help solidify the stools and help him recover quicker. Poor pup! I would try a home remedy to see if that will stop the vomiting and diarrhea, and if it does, then you can give him the deworming treatment with the bland diet I will give you. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If he keeps vomiting in the absence of food, vomiting on the bland diet, or has diarrhea on the bland diet, he will need to see the vet right away.

Panacur is made to remove whipworms primarily. Drontal is formulated for the removal of roundworms, hookworms and tapeworms. However, your dog may also have a protozoal parasite that these medications won't cover. It's best to have your vet do a fecal examination to determine what type of parasites your dog may have before deworming him, so that dog can receive the correct medication for the parasites he may have.

I recommend to call your vet. Most vets are happy to discuss the logic behind treatments. Panacur is used to get rid of certain worms and protozoal parasites like gairdia at certain doses. It is beneficial however to know if parasites are present because some of them can spread to humans or remain o source of infection in the yard. Your vet will likely not have an objection to testing Clif for worms or giardia. You will need to test him however before giving the medication. Deworming medicine can cause diarrhea in dogs, but it should pass in about 24 hours. I would not give him pepto for this, as in dogs it is used for diarrhea caused by something the dog has eaten. I would monitor him for now, and if he still has diarrhea in 24 hours, bring him into your vet. You can try feeding him a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet.

Imodium can safely be tried only if a bacterial and parasitic infection has been ruled out or treated for simultaneously. It is possible they are all having an adverse reaction to the dewormer you used. In which case getting them with an antibiotic and probiotic would benefit them more than just the Imodium. I would consider taking 1 puppy out of the litter to the vet to get them tested for any remaining intestinal parasites, and then the recommended treatment above should be considered. In the meantime I would recommend feeding them all a bland diet of boiled plain chicken and rice or cottage cheese to help settle their stomachs. Also over the counter probiotic Culturelle can be started to see if this makes a difference with their stools. Best wishes Witt your pups and I hope you get their loose stool resolved soon. You can try withholding food for 24 hours. Allow small amounts of water or an unflavored electrolyte replacement beverage. Resume feeding a bland diet in small frequent amounts until symptoms resolve. Transition slowly to the regular diet afterwards. A stool sample should be submitted to diagnose intestinal parasites or bacterial overgrowth. A veterinary probiotic such as Prostora, FortiFlora or ProViable may promote gut health.

Great question! It could be from both honestly. You can see diarrhea after giving a deworming medication, it means the dead worms are moving through the GI tract and it's working. You are doing the right thing by mixing the new dog food with the old, but it could be his body doesn't like the new food. I would try feeding him a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts a couple of times a day for a few days to see if that helps with the diarrhea. Should the diarrhea clear up, then go back to mixing the old food with the new food. If it does not clear up, have him seen by a vet. Good luck, I hope this helps!
