Is a hard, protruding bone on my cat's chest between her legs normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 1 year and 6 months old

My cat Monkey has a protruding chest directly between her front legs in the absolute centre. It appears more prominent when she is sat in certain positions. It is hard (like bone) and doesn't appear to cause her any discomfort. I have prodded it etc and she isn't bothered at all. Is this normal, is it something i should worry about?

It may just be her sternum that is protruding. If you are concerned that it could be abnormal than have your vet take a look at her. Your vet can take an x-ray, if needed, to determine if there is an issue that needs to be addressed.
