My dog's aspiration pneumonia returned. Is it chronic? What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Dachshund | Female | spayed | 8 years and 1 month old | 12 lbs

Our dog had aspirational pneumonia and was hospitalized for over a week. She was on an antibiotic and came off it a couple weeks ago when her Xray was clear. Now she is showing all the same signs again. Will she have a chronic condition now due to the first bout and what should we do at this point? We can't afford another $5000 vet bill

Unless the aspiration pneumonia is linked to a specific condition , it might be that in order to get over this episode Ziggy needs an extended antibiotic course. Sometimes changing antibiotics or adding in a different antibiotic might also be necessary.
