How to keep my dog off the winter pool cover and stop him drinking?

I have an in ground pool, which is covered for winter Apollo keeps walking on top of the cover to drink the water. How do I stop him? Tried everything. Pet's info: Dog | Great Pyrenees | Male | unneutered | 2 months and 18 days old

You are right to be concerned about Apollo walking on the pool cover. The best way to stop him from doing this is to take him out to toilet on a lead, as you can control where he does and doesn't walk. While on the lead, you can stop him from getting on the pool cover, and when he tries to get on it, you can tell him "off" in a firm voice while gently pulling him back from it. When he gets off the pool cover, you can give him a treat and praise. Praise him when he stays away from the pool cover to reinforce the behavior.
