My puppy was stepped on. Is surgery safe for a 7-week-old puppy?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Miniature Schnauzer | Male | unneutered | 1 month and 18 days old | 2 lbs

A 7 week ol mini schnauzer has been stepped on injury upper shoulder. Puppy is walking with front legs spread some and wobbly. Can a puppy so young and small have surgery without brain damage or other complications. And how much can this cost. Owners vet said up to 5000 dollars.

Without knowing the nature of the injury it is impossible to say what the surgery would entail or the likely cost but I would be concerned about a prolonged anesthetic in a pup less than 2months old. You should be sure to discuss the likely outcome of any planned surgery and are free to seek a second opinion and repeat xrays if necessary. Chiropractic care could also be considered
