Why is my cat limping after declawing? What home care can I give?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My husband and I recently had our cat declawed (5 days ago) and she is just now starting to limp and puts little to no weight on her left front paw. She has no more pain medication and we are trying not to give her too much because she is pregnant but she does not seem to be in too much pain she's playing as normal is there anything we can do at home to help the limping to stop?

Increased pain and limping 5days after surgery may indicate infection in the wound, and she needs to be assessed by a vet for pain relief and possibly antibiotics. Given she has had an anesthetic, surgical trauma and pain and post operative medications the risk of any additional treatment to kittens would be minimal
