My dog limps badly. Can glucosamine help her joint recovery?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Bernese Mountain Dog | Female | spayed | 1 year and 1 month old

My one year old Bernese hurt her ankle playing with a mastiff. She seems to be walking around ok during the day but at night and in the morning she limps very badly. Is there a glucosamine product for dogs that I can give her to help with recovery?

Yes you can give her Dasuquin or Cosequin, from your local pet store or vet clinic, to help support her joints. The both contain Glucosamine and other ingredients to help pets with osteoarthritis symptoms. However if this is due to trauma she will benefit the most from pet friend NSAIDs (i.e. Rimadyl/Carprofen, Meloxicam, Deramaxx) +/- opiates (i.e. Tramdol) from your vet.
