Can a dog chew off and eat its own paw if trapped in a cage?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 10 months old

My sis found her dog (in a cage) missing a paw and she can't find the missing part anywhere. Is it possible for a dog to chew its paw off and eat it?!

If Ranquee caught his paw in the cage and was unable to free himself, it is entirely possible he chewed it off and ingested it. It is also possible another pet or animal in the house is responsible for the injury. Please take him to the nearest veterinary ER or clinic for exam and treatment.
