Why is my dog suddenly aggressive, tail down, and not playing?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 1 year and 10 months old | 36 lbs

Hello! My dog has been acting very strange. She is 1.5 years old, normally very playful and high energy. For the past month or so she has calmed down but it keeps getting worse. Now she just walks around with her tail ducked and shows no interest in playing. She has become aggressive when I touch her sometimes and will snap which is not like her at all. There are no physical symptoms I have noticed and no major life changes. Could you provide some advice on this?

Since she is walking around with her tail down, she could have a sprained tail which can cause a lot of pain in dogs. She should be examined by a vet to determine the exact cause. She may be snapping at you because she hurts. Your vet can do a physical exam to diagnose and then prescribe medications to help. She may need an anti-inflammatory and pain medications. Hope she feels better soon!
