What if my 100lb dog accidentally ate 5mg of human Terazosin?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Male | neutered | 105 lbs

Accidentally gave my 100-lb. lab a 5 mg. dose of my Terazosin. We're trying to get him to vomit with peroxide, but hasn't yet. Is there a grave concern?

Fortunately, this is not likely to cause any problems at all. This medication is actually used sometimes in dogs to treat prostate enlargement and other urinary issues, and this dose in a 100 lb dog is within the normal dosage range. So Bubba should be just fine :) The main side effect seen with this medication at high doses is low blood pressure - so if you see any signs of weakness or disorientation in the next few hours, you could take him to an emergency vet for a check-up to be safe.
