How can I help my parvo puppy who is weak and has no appetite recover?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

I recently took my puppy to the vet, tested positive for parvo. They gave him a shot and gave me lactares ringers led to administer to him. He's a little better, more active but is weak and has no appetite. What can I do

Poor pup! I'm sorry to hear that he has parvo. The most important part of treatment for this disease is fluids - so I'm glad that you're vet sent you home with some to give. I would definitely make sure that you continue giving these over the next few days as directed by your vet, as this will do more than anything else to help him recover. Aside from making sure he stays hydrated, you can try offering him some bland, tasty things to eat as soon as he's gone at least 12 hours with no vomiting. Some good options to try would include plain boiled chicken, chicken or beef-flavored baby food, or small amounts of canned puppy food. You can also offer some low-sodium chicken or beef broth for him to drink when he's able to keep fluids down.
