My dog is recovering from vomiting. When and what should I feed?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Standard Schnauzer | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 4 months old | 14 lbs

2 days ago my puppy has started vomiting several times a day (about 5 or 6) in addition to having diarrhea with clear red blood, yesterday I take it to the vet (it's 1:10 am here) and injected through the vein some substance, And then at night I no longer needed injection through the vein but to the body, now my dog has only vomited 1 time, but the doctor told me not to feed him or drink anything, and he is bent now, I do not know what to do .

I'm glad that Machin is doing better after being so sick! It is recommended to withhold food when a dog is vomiting. I'm not sure when Machin last vomited, but I would wait at least 12 hours from the time he last vomited before feeding him again. I would then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If he starts vomiting again on the bland diet, then I would take him back into the vet.
