My 6-month-old cat is sleeping a lot. Is he sick or just tired?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Male | neutered | 6 months and 8 days old | 5 lbs

Supposedly, my cat was very active today. I got home from work and he has been sleeping all night. He's 6 months old. I feel like he feels warm. I tried to take his temperature, but he wouldn't allow the time needed. He's eaten and has been drinking water. His nose is wet and cool, but he's not active like he usually is. He hasn't harassed either of the 2 other cats or been that playful with me since I've been home for the past 4 hours. Could something be wrong?

If Ludo was active all day, and is eating and drinking, then likely he's sleeping because he's simply tired from the full day. I would not worry about the temperature or wetness of his nose; it is not used as a sign if illness in pets because it can change to warm and dry simply by the animal sitting in the sun or near a heat source. I would monitor him for now, let him rest from his busy day, and if he continues to be lethargic for another 24-48 hours, then I would bring him into the vet for a health check.
