Why does my dog have fluid-filled bumps on his head and face?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | neutered | 20 lbs

My small terrier mix has starting getting bumps on his head, around his eyes and around his mouth sporadically. They come and go, and appear to be fluid-filled. He is not running a fever. I have given him Benadryl and it doesn't help. Do you know what could be going on? It just started last night.

This is probably an allergic reaction due to an insect bite or a plant outside. those reactions tend to resolve within 48 hours without treatment. if the swelling becomes too large or if your dog is lethargic, take Jack to the vet in order to get an antihistamine/steroid injection.
