My dog has recurring hookworms. What's the best medicine & prevention?

We rescued our 60 lb dog from a shelter last year who had Hookworm. She was given Drontal last year and it took 4 doses to get rid of it.Now, 6 months later she was diagnosed with it again. What is the best medicine to give her? We also have 4 other dogs ranging from 5.5 lbs, to 26 lbs.What preventative can we put them on so as to not contract it.Very frustrated since it seems 2 b a chronic problem with her. Not exhibiting any of the listed symptoms, has good weight, shiny coat.What can we do? Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 4 years old | 60 lbs

I can certainly understand being frustrated with this problem! Drontal, in my experience, is a great deworming treatment, and it often takes at least two treatments to kill all the worms. That's because the first treatment kills the adult worms already present, and the second kills the ones who had not yet hatched at the time of the first treatment. Preventing worms does require treatment with a deworming medication every three months, and each dog in the house should be treated to prevent reinfection. I would recommend giving all the dogs in your home Drontal, and giving them this treatment every three months. You can also give them Panacur instead of Drontal, it's a good deworming treatment that works well in my experience.
