My cat won't eat, use litter box, waddles, and has irritated anus.

Pet's info: Cat | Persian | Female | spayed | 12 lbs

Hi, recently my cat doesn't want to eat or use the litter box, she waddles and her anus looks irritated. Sometimes she will have liquidy stool so we try to wipe her and she gets very upset. I am not sure whether she got into something while we were at work and has a blockage or if she is constipated, but I am very worried about her and am not sure what to do. All local vets in my area are closed for weather conditions and we would appreciate any help. Thank you!

There could be a couple things that might be causing these symptoms in Ginger. You are correct that one of them could be a blockage, such as from a foreign body. That would make her feel very unwell, and not want to eat. Because her anus looks irritated, she could have intestinal parasite or her anal sacs could be impacted. If she isn't up to date on her deworming treatments, she will need on from the vet. Impacted anal sacs would also make her feel unwell, and not want to use the litter box. They may need to be expressed, and if you have never done this yourself, then I would have the vet do it. Finally, she could be constipated, which might be caused by any of the conditions I mentioned above, as well as low fiber in the diet and GI polyps. You can try mixing in some canned pumpkin puree (not pumpkin pie filling) in with her food to see if that helps her passes feces. Because she's not eating, I would try to tempt her to eat by gently heating up some really smelly wet food, such as sardine or fish based. If she is still showing these symptoms in the morning, then I would take her into the vet for an exam.
