My dog is limping after twisting her leg. Is a short walk okay?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 9 years and 3 months old | 65 lbs

Hi my dog is limping-- a dog tried to play with her at the park and bounded toward her and she must have twisted her leg-- seems to be her front left leg. She can still do stairs and jump up on couch and bed but I am now blocking the stairs and couch to make sure she rests and doesn't impact her leg anymore. Is it ok to take her for a walk but keep her on leash?

Poor Lola! You're doing exactly the right thing by restricting her activity - no stairs or jumping on or off of the furniture, if possible. You can take her for short walks to potty, but no more than 5-10 minutes and definitely keep her on leash. If the injury is minor, like a mild sprain or pulled muscle, she should be much improved within the next 24 hours or so. If there is no improvement in the next 2-3 days, I would recommend taking her to the vet for x-rays to find out what's wrong.

I don't think you need to carry her. She can walk but just slowly and only on a leash. It is amazing how quickly they "forget" they are injured when they see a squirrel or something! I recommend you rest her (obviously no running, jumping or playing) over the weekend. If by Monday there is no improvement then she should probably see the vet. Hope this helps. Best wishes.
