Why is my cat having diarrhea accidents outside the litter box?

My cat had diahrea somewhere other than his litter box ? In the bathtub. What has gotten into him ? Why did he do this ? He's never done this.

cats will often have accidents outside the box when they have diarrhea, as they cannot always control it. if it happens more than once i would recommend taking him to the vet in order to get it treated.

Hello. I am sure your veterinarian will be able to address the diarrhea tomorrow when he is neutered. It is probably parasites, so once a fecal is done, the appropriate medication will be administered & the diarrhea should clear up. Take care.

Liky may be defecating outside the litter box because of the diarrhea. Diarrhea could be related to intestinal parasites, eating something that caused stomach upset, or a food sensitivity. I would recommend seeing your veterinarian again - they may want to check a stool sample for parasites or run some other tests and can also prescribe medication to help the diarrhea.

I am sorry to hear about your kitty! If the food appears different than the one he normally eats it is possible that perhaps there is a different additive or food coloring that has upset his stomach (or is it possible it is a different flavor even though the brand is the same). We can see some pets have GI upset from quick changes in diet. That being said, we can also see diarrhea from other causes, including GI parasites, bacterial overgrowth, inflammatory bowel disease, as a symptom of systemic illness, and more. If he is still energetic with no vomiting you could try getting a probiotic from your vet or the pet store for him which can sometimes help with diarrhea and feeding something bland for a few days (such as plain white rice and shredded boiled chicken or lean ground chicken) or picking up the food you normally get at the pet store and trying this for a few days. There could be several causes for Yokie having diarrhea. She would benefit from an exam with a veterinarian - take a fresh stool sample with you to the appointment for evaluation (litter on it is ok!). Some of the more common reasons for diarrhea in cats include intestinal parasites (which she could have gotten from eating outside critters), Irritable Bowel Syndrome, and intestinal lymphoma. Your veterinarian will be able to prescribe special dewormers based on her symptoms and may recommend a special food or other medications to try out and see if that helps with the diarrhea. You can also try "ProPectalin AntiDiarrheal Gel for Dogs Cats", but it should not be administered long-term.

I hate to hear this is happening. Unfortunately, your cat needs to be examined by the veterinarian again. When pets don't respond to treatment as expected, it generally means the real cause of illness has not been identified. Likely she needs further diagnostics and treatment. When cats stop using the box, it's often because it hurts to have the bowel movement and they think the litter box is related to the pain. Unless your vet told you to give the imodium, I recommend to stop the medication. If Daisy is otherwise well, I would be concerned the most likely cause is a gastrointestinal parasite. I have a cat that is 13 yrs old she has developed diarrhea and has been having accidents since Friday
The diarrhea could be caused by a number of things, parasites, infection, even being constipated will sometimes show as diarrhea initially because liquid is all that can get by the hardened fecal material. If she is eating and drinking, that's good, since cats need to eat or they will develop liver problems in a matter of days. I would get her seen by your vet as soon as possible, especially if her appetite is down, if she is lethargic, her behavior has changed, any other adverse symptoms accompanying the diarrhea. Your vet will do an exam, some lab work and based on these results will be better able tot ell you what is wrong and how best to treat it.

It does indeed look like diarrhea. The fact that she peed on the carpet right in front of you means she is trying toell you that she is not feeling well, or she had to go really bad and could not wait until you were done cleaning the litter box. Diarrhea in cats is tricky. It could be caused by intestinal parasites, a gastro-intestinal infection, food indiscretion, stress, etc. I would take your kitty to a vet for an exam on Monday.
