My old cat still fights new cats after two years. What can I do?

Kosmo is my oldest female cat & all my 6 cats prefixed,she fight all them,we have had 2 for year now &she still won't except them,what can I do,?

You may ned to just keep them separated. If it has been 2 years, there is a chance she will never get along with them. You could try some Feliway spray and see if that helps or talk to your vet about trying an anti-anxiety drug, like Prozac or Trazodone. http://www.feliway.com/us/#redirected

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! For now, I would recommend that you just give them some time. They will likely forget what happened and continue to live as they did before. Try to keep them separate if possible for at least a few days. You can try a product called Feliway to try to reduce any anxiety that may be present. Best of luck!

Hi there and thank you for using pet coach to address your question. If you have not yet tried the Feliway products, I would recommend doing so. You can find Feliway online quite easily or at your local pet store. There is a spray and diffuser that I would recommend trying. I would also make sure that both cats have their own areas to get away from each other. The problem is, cats are very territorial and many times, having multiple cats does not work out. As a starting point, make sure that both of your cats have been neutered, as intact male cats will often spray urine due to hormone influences. If both cats have been neutered, the spraying behavior is likely a sign of stress and anxiety, but medical causes of inappropriate urination should be ruled out by a visit to the veterinarian. Separating the newly adopted cat and only allowing the cats to interact under direct supervision may minimize fighting behavior. Also, utilizing calming pheromone products for both cats, such as the Comfort Zone® Multi-Cat Diffuser, may decrease the stress level for both cats. I'm sorry to hear that you're having so much trouble! Some cats, just like some people, may simply have incompatible personalities and may never make good housemates. It sounds like you have done everything right so far and given them plenty of time to adjust, so this is definitely a challenging case! Because of this, I would really recommend making an appointment with a veterinary behaviorist if you're committed to keeping both cats. He/she can evaluate both cats in person to help determine why they're having so much trouble getting along, and will put together a detailed plan for you to address the problem - this may include management recommendations to ensure that both cats are comfortable, training exercises you can do with them that may help, or even medication for one or both cats if necessary. My guess is that you did not do a gradual introduction with them?? If not, you may have to go back and revert to doing that along with these other recommendations. It can take a lot of time and patience for them to get along but here are some tips for decreasing stress for Alyssa in the short term. -Feliway- calming cat pheromone- comes in many forms from pet stores or online. - Adding a litter box. Studies show that the ideal number of litter boxes for a home is #of cats +1 . This is regardless of how clean you keep his current litter box. - making sure she has plenty of “high space”. The safest (and therefore least anxiety-inducing) place for a cat is up. If you don’t already, get a cat tree or put up a shelf or two that she can go perch on. Feeding them in separate rooms with two or three water bowls throughout the home is also a good idea as perceived competition for resources is a common problem in cats. I'm sorry to hear your cat isn't doing well in your home anymore. If you have enough space in your home, you could try separating the two cats temporarily with a gate while we try to re-introduce them again. Feliway Friends is a cat pheromone spray which can help cats get along better. I see you live in Poland, perhaps you can try your local vet or purchasing it online. You can have them eat side by side, but with a gate between them. That may help them get used to each other's scents and start to associate their interactions with something positive (eating). Make sure that you have separate food and water dishes for the two cats, and at least 3 litter boxes in the house. Take it very slow and don't be too rushed to introduce them again. As much as we try, two cats may never get along but we can at least try to have them be civil toward each other! Best of luck!

I have two cats 2 any 3 yrs old and a few months ago they had a fight full on we separated them and started agin and they were fine but they had another fight for no reason I don't know what to do
How frustrating! Cats can be very hard to "read'. There is almost certainly a reason for the fighting, but it can be very hard for us humans to notice what the reason was because we don't speak Cat.
I recommend separating them again, give them a break apart for at least a week, and then restarting the introduction much slower this time. If you introduced them over a week before, do it over 3-4 weeks this time. If you took a month to introduce them last time, take 3 months now. Some cats need a LOT of time to warm up.
When you are introducing them, only let them interact or be in the same room if they are both completely relaxed. Often feeding both cats, on separate sides of the room is a good way to start this process.
If you try again, and they still fight, I recommend getting in touch with a veterinary behaviorist right away. The more they "practice" fighting, the harder it will be to ever get them to stop. Some cats even need to be on medications in order to get along.
