My dog stopped vomiting, now has diarrhea. Should I wait for vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 2 years and 6 months old | 23 lbs

I came home from work to find a hairball, some feces, and some clear vomit on the living room floor. The dog was acting normally so I assumed the piles of vomit and feces were from the strain of ridding himself of the hairball. He acted normally on his walk. Since then he's vomited two more times. The vomiting stopped a few hours ago, and e vet said it would be ok to wait til morning. Now he has small amounts of diarrhea. Do I wait the few hours for the vet to open or go to e vet?

Poor guy. As long as Oscar is relatively stable (normal vitals- no fever, breathing normal, nice pink gums, mentation normal), then you can wait the few hours for the vet to open up. He mostly sounds like he is having a severe GI upset right now. GI upset can be caused by something he ate, or can be an early indicator of another disease process altogether. The vet will run the necessary tests to determine what is the most likely cause and get him started on much needed medications as soon as possible.
