My cat is drooling with watery eyes. Could he have eaten flea meds?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 1 year and 7 months old | 13 lbs

My cat is drooling and has watery eyes. My mother in laws cat has flea meds on him but mine does not. However they play together all the time so my cat may have consumed a small amout of the meds. What should i do? I can't go to the vet right this moment but im working on getting money together so i can go in the morning.

Drooling is a sign of ingestion of flea medication, and if Peanut Butter has symptoms that progress to lethargy, facial twitching, agitation, seizures, or vomiting, he will need to see a vet immediately. At the moment, I would flush his mouth out with cool water, and I wouldn't offer him any food. The watery eyes could be related to something different, such as allergies or an eye infection. He should see a vet as soon as possible. If paying for a vet is an issue, you can see if your vet accepts payment plans, if there is a low cost clinic in your area, or you can apply for Care Credit online. There is also an organization called Red Rover that give grants for treatment of sick animals, and you can see if you qualify for one of their grants. http://www.humanesociety.org/animals/resources/tips/trouble_affording_pet.html?credit=web_id91754962 https://www.redrover.org https://www.carecredit.com
