My senior cat's tail has a popping knot. Is it broken or dislocated?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | spayed | 12 years and 6 months old | 5 lbs

I have a senior cat and when I came home work she was sitting on me and I noticed that she had a knot about 2 inches down the tail. I put a little pressure on it to see if it was tender and I felt/heard little thing like popping/moving/grinding together. Is it broken or Dislocated or what?

That could represent a subluxation (partial or complete dislocation) of the tail vertebras with arthrosis process around. A check up and possibly radiographs are needed to confirm that, but it is not painful it is likely to be an old lesion and unlikely to be clinically significant.
