Why does my cat have a string-like lump under her armpit skin?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | spayed | 14 lbs

On the front, left leg of my cat, starting in her armpit and going down the back of her leg there is a raised line about 1.5in long. I can't see it because of the fur, but it feels almost like a string of yarn is on the underside of her skin. It moves with the skin.

If it is hard a raised (try looking underneath if it is red as well) it could be an allergic reaction, an infection or possibly an autoimmune disease that is quite common in cats (EG granuloma). If this line seems to get worse or doesn't get any better within a week give or take, I would recommend having it checked by your vet, it might need medical treatment (either steroids, antibiotics or anti-fungal therapy).
