Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pembroke Welsh Corgi | Female | spayed | 12 years and 1 month old | 33 lbs

My dog ate her evening food. Her abdomen is very hard. She did move her bowels and there is no diahrea. She refueses to go up the stairs. She cries out when I try to carry her up the stairs. She is 12 years. She is a welsh corgii. I will take her to the vet at 8AM tomorrow morning. What can I do for her tongiht. I am afraid that this may be very bad and she may die before I get her to the vet. She has not vomited. She is not crying or moaning. I do not want her to suffer.

If she is not crying or moaning than it doesn't sound like she is suffering. Try to keep her comfortable for the night but if she starts to seem distressed than she should be examined by a vet. You could take her to an emergency clinic for an x-ray and tretament. Hope she feels better soon!

Ideally more investigations would be needed to determine the underlying cause. The best one, considering what you described in your post, is definitively an abdominal ultrasound. Given the extreme pain and the persistent inappetence, euthanasia may be a reasonable option, that must be discussed in terms of quality of life anyway. An house visit would be definitively best, but your vet will have a limited possibility to perform tests and investigations. Please do not hesitate to contact us again on the forum or by requesting a consultation if you have any more questions or to discuss it any further.
