Why is my cat lethargic, not eating, and growling when touched?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Male | neutered | 1 year and 10 months old | 10 lbs

My 2 year old cat has been very lethargic, barely eating, and growls every time we put pressure on his lower stomach or hind legs. This is going on for the third day today, and we are concerned about him. What could be the reason for this?

I'm sorry to hear Perry isn't feeling well. In a young neutered male cat, I would be worried about a urinary blockage. If he hasn't used the litter box in the last few hours I would get him to the vet ASAP. If he cannot urinate he could die. Of course this is worst case scenario but I would still recommend having a vet see him to find the cause of his pain. Good luck and kisses to Perry!
