Dog bite: Can a wound still get infected even with quick antibiotics?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Doberman Pinscher | Female | unspayed | 5 months and 7 days old | 28 lbs

My doberman was bitten yesterday in her neck. Got started on antibiotics within 6 hours of bite. My question is how likely is it that the wound will still get infected despite prompt treatment?

Great question! There would immediately be bacteria in the wound from the bite due to bacteria in the mouth. The antibiotics should prevent the growth and spread of the bacteria. Keep the wound clean and dry and it should heal quickly. Good luck and kisses to Pepper!
