My dog grazes her food. Is this normal or a problem for her health?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Female | spayed | 1 year and 3 months old | 65 lbs

When it comes to eating food my dog grazes instead of inhaling her food. This all started at around 6 months or so. I'm just wondering if there's any negatives to it. Thank you!

The biggest problem we have with nutrition in dogs is obesity. And it can be hard to measure food on a dog that grazes, so to prevent problems in the future, I would continue to measure Elsie's food twice daily, so you can monitor how much she is eating. There are sometimes problems with having other dogs in the house when one dog is a grazer, but if Elsie is the only dog in the house, let her graze. I hope that helps!
