My dog has a painless growth. What is it and will it go away?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Staffordshire Terrier | Female | spayed | 3 years and 8 months old | 53 lbs

My dog has had this growth thing for 2 weeks now. Doesn't seem to bother her at all. Will it go away on its own and what is it?

It is hard to tell if it is an actual tumor growth or it is just very inflamed from a nail bed infection. Either answer can result in surgery depending on how it responds to medication and if it involves the bone in an X-ray. It is unlikely to go away without doing anything though.
