Lilly's eye is closing and dry after vet visit. What's next?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 10 lbs

I took Lilly to the vet on Tuesday because her one eye either closes all the way or closes halfway all they did was give her an antibiotic shot and put some dye in her eyes and they notice that she doesn't have as much tearing in the one eye that keeps closing they just said to let them know how she's doing I can't imagine that resolving her problem. Anything else that you could advise or offer?

You can use artificial tears in her eye three times a day to keep the eye lubricated. This is made to help with dry eyes. It's a sterile ointment that you can get at a human pharmacy. They may think she has an infection that is contributing to her problem so it may improve with the antibiotic injection. If it continues there is a prescription eye medication specifically for dry eyes. Please have them check the eye again in two weeks. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to help you care for Lilly.
