It looks like Roxy could have a mass and/or an infection. She needs to be examined by a vet to determine the cause and treat. Your vet can do a needle aspirate and/or biopsy to help diagnose and then treat. It may need to be removed.

    Hi, and thanks for your question. Although a picture of it would help to give you a more specific answer, this lump/bump/growth should be ideally examined by your local vet to have a diagnosis established. Your vet may want to perform an FNA (fine needle aspiration) or a biopsy to sample the bump and determine its underlying nature. Differentials would include skin cysts, infections, benign or more malignant type of tumors. That looks like a growth, not a nipple. In a dog Rocco's age, there is always a chance any growth can be malignant and if it is, it does need to be removed surgically. Any suspicious lumps should be examined by the vet. The vet can perform a test called a fine needle aspirate on it. To do this, the vet sticks a small needle into the lump to get a sample of its cells, and examines the cells on a slide under a microscope. It's usually painless to the animal, and relatively quick to perform. Once the cause of the lump is diagnosed, the vet can discuss treatment options if needed. I would give his vet a call to make him an appointment to be seen in the next couple of days. Best of luck.

My dog has a very large, softball sized lump in her armpit. It seems to be fluid filled. It is not giving her pain. What is this?
This lump could be a cyst or an abscess. I recommend taking Roxy into the vet tomorrow for an exam. The vet can do a physical exam, and can do a fine needle aspirate on the lump. To do this, the vet sticks a small needle into the lump to get a sample of it's cells, and examines the cells on a slide under a microscope. It's usually painless to the animal, and relatively quick to perform. If it is a cyst, it will need to be drained, and it may need to be removed in order to keep it from returning. An abscess will require it to be drained and flushed sterilely, and she would need antibiotics to treat the infection.

Hi my 8year old Rottweiler has a lump on her vagina. She was spaid 3 years ago. Otherwise Roxy has always been totally healthy. Not sure if its just natural swelling or something more. Grateful for your opinion. Tara.
This lump needs to be checked and analysed as there are many conditions and types of tumors that could look like that. take Roxy to the vet, they will perform a fine needle aspiration on the growth and send it to the lab for analysis. when the result comes, the vet will advise what needs to be done according to the diagnosis.

Wow, poor Roxy is quite swollen! It could be her lymph nodes that are swollen, and this could be caused by a severe infection or lymphoma. She has to see a vet as soon as possible for this, especially because it is getting more swollen. The vet can perform a test called a fine needle aspirate on the swellings if it is her lymph nodes. To do this, the vet sticks a small needle into the lymph nodes to get a sample of it's cells, and examines the cells on a slide under a microscope. It's usually painless to the animal, and relatively quick to perform. Once a diagnosis is made, the vet can discuss treatment options with you. Please bring her into a vet as soon as possible.

Female dog of 14years has lump near nipples in groin. It started as a pointed growth but looks like it "opened" and is flat and pink . No pain . She licks meds off
Poor girl. Because this mass is open and seems to be bothering her I would highly consider having this mass removed surgically. Sometimes if the mass is small (less than 2 cm's) we can do a sedative on the pet and quickly remove these. However if it is a larger mass then general anesthesia may be required. She also needs to be placed on oral antibiotics to keep this area from getting infected and daily cleaning of the mass as well. Sterile saline flushes can help keep this area relatively clean and then an e-collar placed on her can help prevent licking. If surgery isn't an option for you, then medical management with antibiotics, e-collar and regular cleanings may allow proper healing of the area, but in most cases surgical removal is the best option. There is not likely anything you can do at home for Ruth’s. Skin masses and blister type lesions can be benign but they can also be a skin cancer called a mass cell tumor. Additionally, masses in the mammary chain can be breast cancer. I recommend to have Ruthy examined by her veterinarian who may need to aspirate these masses to look at the cells under a microscope. Although it may look benign, this kind of lump/growth needs to be ideally assessed by your veterinarian to have a definitive and specific answer. Usually there are two ways your vet can do that a part from examining it directly during physical examination. A biopsy can be taken under local or general anesthetic, otherwise a smaller sample through a fine needle can be aspirated (this technique is called FNA= fine needle aspiration). Differentials include skin cysts, infections, benign or more sinister type of tumors.
